If your CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON - HAVE IT READ - ASAP.
There are over ONE HUNDRED various conditions that can cause the light to come on. Some cars have Adaptive Memory (Fuzzy Logic) which permits a few components to compensate for their anomalies which will then cause the light to go out.
The Check Engine Light on cars built after 1997 is part of the OBD System (the On Board Diagnostic System). The light will ONLY come on if the car IS POLLUTING - ONLY.
Some cars permit the codes to be ERASED and the light to be “TURNED OFF”. This will also erase all the stored diagnostic data tha could save time and money when you want the light off for the long term. Only repairing the CAUSE of the check engine light will keep it turned off.
Each Car Manufacturer has a set of proprietary codes that can only be retrieved by their specific code readers. TEC Shop has or has licensed those code from Volkswagon, Ford and Prius.
